Without a doubt, a down comforter can be a hefty expense for your bedroom. This leads to the importance in caring for your comforter and one of the most common questions that people have is how to clean a down comforter? Should you be washing down comforters, etc?

The first thing you want to do before even thinking about washing a down comforter is to check the label or tag.

Some down comforters can be put in a home washing machine while others need to be dry cleaned only. If your comforter needs dry cleaned only, I can't stress enough the importance of doing just that. It can and in most cases, will be ruined if not.

If you can use your washing machine to clean your down comforter, follow these tips:

• Be sure the machine is big enough for the comforter. If not, take it to a commercial machine.
  
• Never put a comforter in the washing machine if it has unrepaired rips or tears in the fabric.
  
• Use the delicate setting and only add in a small amount of detergent.
  
• Dry on a low setting.
  
• Check on your comforter frequently and remove any lumps that begin forming

It takes a little patience and reading all instructions in learning how to clean a down comforter, but if you follow them closely you should not have any problems.
