Down Comforters - What You Need To Know Before Buying

Having a down comforter can turn an ordinary bed into a warm, luxurious nightly retreat. Not only will a comforter help keep you warm during the winter months, but it also helps liven up any bedroom. So, what should you be aware of before shopping for that special down comforter?

Warmth

Knowing how warm you like to sleep in bed is very important in choosing any comforter. It you are someone who does not usually need a heavy cover you will not want a thick, heavy, down comforter.

Size

Never make the mistake of assuming the size of your bed and a comforter will always match perfectly. I did this in the past when I purchased a new queen down comforter for our bed. What I bought though was a full/queen comforter. If found out it was too short for our bed. Take measurements of your bed and choose the comforter that best fits those measurements.

Thread Count

Be sure to get the highest thread count on any down comforter you are looking at. Low thread count equals low quality. You don't want to lose your feathers or down because you picked a lower thread count comforter that saved you a few dollars. In the long run it will actually cost you more when you have to suddenly replace it.

Style

Are you wanting a luxury down comforter such as a goose down or are you looking for something along the lines of a polyester fill? You can find down comforters made out of many materials in several different price ranges.

Duvet Cover

Do you want to protect your new comforter for years to come? If so, consider adding a duvet cover over it. A duvet cover is similar to a giant pillowcase in that it fits over your comforter and protects it. You'll find it is much easier to clean a duvet then the comforter.

By considering these different points you will have much better success i finding the perfect down comforter for your bedroom suite that will give you years of enjoyment in the future.
